The kitchen progress is coming along just beautifully. If you recall we started with this:
In one short month walls have come down, cabinets are ordered, windows are coming. It is a completely different space, each time I see it the transformation is just more and more incredible. We have really lucked out with our contractor, and no you can’t have him! Each time I see it I can just feel how it’s coming to life. I’m going to be honest. In the beginning, I didn’t see it. I couldn’t see the rooms transitioning together. I ‘m so thankful I have such a great team working with me on this. I actually had to draw it out on a piece of graph paper. On paper, well I could almost see it. SO I took a leap of faith and we just dove right in. This is the plan!
It’s amazing. I cannot tell you how much I love it. Except if you follow me on Instagram and in which case I tell you constantly how much I love it, lol. Current view:
The big decision this week has been which faucet to pick. I’ve been so lucky to work with such patient people, and that includes the lovely folks at Delta Faucets who wait patiently while I cycle through one after faucet after the other. Choosing a faucet doesn’t have to define a room. But it can if you want it to, and that becomes the question. This was honestly the hardest thing for me choose thus far in the project. I always knew I wanted a white kitchen. White, simple, classic, pretty and timeless, I’ve been trying to keep that vision in mind throughout. When I look at the vision I don’t just see the parts. I see us washing freshly picked strawberries, bouquets of peonies ( which I grew, of course) or even just washing dishes looking out at family gatherings by the lake. Or more likely you washing dishes while I sit on the counter sipping wine and watching the sun set. It’s not just a kitchen. It’s home.
Okay so how did I pick? I narrowed down the finish. I took eight thousand polls on Instagram and then I remembered The Rose House. Remember when we moved and there was that very super shiny gold faucet? At first I wasn’t exactly sure, I hadn’t found ‘my’ style yet. I embraced it and it actually was the style tipping point for my kitchen/sunroom and I completely loved it! I don’t know if style wise I would be here if I hadn’t had that faucet. It was actually a Delta faucet, and that is how I came to be friends with the nice Delta people because I broke it! Hahaha, of course! I broke a spring in this twenty/ thirty-year-old pull out faucet and I could not find a new gold faucet or replacement bits! So I emailed them, explained that I knew this was very very old But I wasn’t done with it yet, and they sent me repair parts. That to me meas so much in the way of a company, I am a big fan of standing behind your products. Anyone will sell you product, but to stand behind it? Especially when we were SO far out of warranty? I mean I think we were talking at least a decade out. It kind of jives with the whole military background thing, honesty…integrity. I like that, a lot! So when this project came along I reached out and asked if they’d like to work with me. And to my amazing surprise, they were like ‘um yeah we want in!’ I think it’s the start of a lovely partnership.
So back to my kitchen faucet. I chose…the Trinsic pull-down faucet with touch 2O. What does this mean? It’s a pull do out faucet and, AND it’s one of those magical ones you can bump with your arm and it turns off. You set the temp and that’s it. I had the wonderful folks at Delta to chat with and select but I also spent a lot of time on their website using their search function. I put in those criteria and I kept coming back to this.
This year I am completely embracing and loving mixed metals. The lights I’ve chosen are chrome and in discussion with our in house designer Julie of @ellivenstudio we determined that two metals are enough. So we have chrome in the lights, we could have one more dominant in hardware. For me it was polished nickel or gold. It was a tough competition but gold it is! I know it’s going to be AMAZING!!
This is our progress as of yesterday!
