Who remembers what this bathroom looked like to start? In case you forgot!!
Already just taking out the dated colors I can see the transformation. There is still so far to go, but let’s talk about bathroom goals a little. The bathroom itself isn’t that large so we really need to be thoughtful in layout and design. Right now farmhouse is IN IN IN. The house itself is a 200 year old farmhouse. I don’t need to add in any farmhouse details, it lends itself to that vision inherently. What I do want to bring out is it’s glam. Not big 80’s glam, well…. maybe a touch. But I do love little soft details of glam. A soft curve here, a shimmer over there and above all I love simple, classic, beautiful clean lines! You know what has none of that? This bathroom!! So let’s see what we can we do about that???
Step 1: Let’s gut it!
Isn’t it better already?
Step 2: Rethink step 1. No just kidding!! But what are we putting back in? I’ve got some fabulous plans, I also still have some unanswered little corners. For the most part, it was pretty simple. Except for that little part where I spent hours on end on Pinterest, collabing with Julie and Jackie, pestering Oliver for extra space ‘but what if we just moved…’ So apart from all that, it was pretty easy. Stick with the vision. Always come back to the vision! I have such a great team that honestly it is easier on me.
So far what we’re looking at….
I want the space to be simple, soft, elegant. Really gorgeous finishes but keeping simple lines. If you know anything about my style you know I love simple and white. I think people tend to worry it will be boring but I have yet to find a boring space within any home we have ever occupied. The floor practically fell into my hands. Jackie and I went shopping and it just happened. We saw, we loved, we bought. It’s a lovely white marble with mother of pearl details.
I’m completely smitten! I keep meaning to take a better photo of this floor for you but somehow it just hasn’t made it to the top of the list.
The other major choice was what finish do we choose for the faucets, fixtures, etc. Now here is where I decided we can push a little further style wise, same as in the kitchen. Why not go a little glam? This is my house, let’s just go for all the furnishings I really love. So we are installing champagne bronze hardware throughout!
With the white marble, mother of pearl, oh my gosh, heaven!
Another big change is the space allocation. We actually stole a little space from the bedroom next door. It’s a guest bedroom and I think it’s space is better served in the main bath than in an occasional type room. We’ll make it all work.
And then light! Natural light is my number one priority. If I could make it giant windows and skylights I totally would. Barring that option the windows are being swapped out to be as big as possible, without having to change the fundamental structure of the house (read $$$). So what we’ve done is lengthen the window down and widen it out as much as possible. The window in the guest room will mirror the shape and symmetry of the overall house will be beautifully preserved!! Ta da!!!
Next time, let’s talk pretty little details: hooks, rods, storage, etc!
I hope you have a wonderful week!
