The #withlovelakehouse is coming along beautifully. This week was drywall, sanding and painting. I know, you’re on the edge of your seat, what colour white did I pick? If you followed our last project, The Rose House, you already know my favourite white. Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. No this post is not sposored, it’s just my favoutire white.
The plan is to paint the whole house white, and no I do not think that’s too boring. I think it’s beautiful and creates a lovely platform everything else in the home. Whenever I’m in doubt, simple is better. Finding the perfect white is hard. It doesn’t always work in each space. Did you see how many whites we tried?
Things I’ve learned over the years on choosing paint.
1. Paint a big enough patch.
2. Make sure you do a couple coats. So boring but prime if you need to.
3. Try them on different walls and also on areas with different lighting. Revere Pewter looks different in every light, I happen to like it but I wouldn’t like that as a surprise.
4. LABEL THEM! So important. When you find the right one, you want to know it’s name. Little strip of painters tape with the name, so helpful!
I tried about 10 colours, various brands, and I came up with a couple really fabulous options. In the end I decided to trust myself and I went with what I know and love.
So the plan is!!! We’re going to try a monotone home with Chantilly Lace on the walls in eggshell, and then the trim same color but in satin. I wish we could do flat paint, but I find flat paint very hard with small children. I consider it a very “grown up choice.” I find it easy to ‘burn the paint.’ You know when you’ve scrubbed those fingerprints so hard it leaves a little sheen. Drives me nuts!
They had a sale at Home Depot so we bought Behr Paint and had it tinted Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. My only concern is that if the coverage isn’t thick enough it can yellow a bit but we bought good quality Behr so it should be fine. We currently have 10 plus gallons of this and I’m hopeful it’s going to be amazing BUT… then I realized I’m also in love with the colour of my current white tiny glass house, and they have these paint kit samples. I was thinking I’d pick one up, just to see, do a little test patch… do not tell Oliver! He’ll be super cranky if I switch paint, I don’t think he loves painting.
For the children’s rooms all bets are off. I haven’t decided at all what to do there. There are some ideas but nothing concrete yet. I’m absolutely loving Rocky Mountain Decals. I could do something completely fabulous with these!
And did you see the fairy doors I found on ETSY?
We’re going to inset it into the baseboard in Lily’s room. We also bought one for our little cousin and a sweet little friend, so the fairies can flitter amongst all their rooms. Oh my heavens, so dreamy!
So there you have it, my loves. Wish me luck painting this weekend. Or rather this is really more how I operate.
Check out FB and Insta for upddates between posts. Wishing you a beautiful long weekend.
