Hello my lovelies, how has everyone been? I’m doing so well but still sooo tired, makes this blogging thing slow. I’ll get there. Anyway lets talk the #withlovelakehouse farmhouse project today. It’s coming along so beautifully. Who even remembers what it looked like in the beginning?
Not terrible, but not fabulous. Blue laminate floor. The white hex tile we really considered keeping and trying to match up over the blue but it was in rough condition and in the end wasn’t worth trying to save.
The barn board at the far end is interesting and I liked the idea but a lot of it was in poor condition. Oliver saved what he could and I’m sure you’ll see a reappearance of it in the project somewhere along the way.
This kitchen was a strange shape, it felt long and narrow and left a lot of space at the far end of the kitchen unused and again in the middle of the house it completely unused. See this bit in red in the photo below?
It housed a small icky closet and a large built-in buffet with limited storage. It was built about a foot out from the wall leaving even more unused space in behind it. A secret hideaway perhaps? The house is 200 years old, maybe it has some amazing story of rescuing slavery and heroisim? Or maybe they grew pot and hid drugs? We’ll have to check the history of the area. Pretty? Yes. Useful? No. I don’t know how many hours we spent in that kitchen saying ‘what if…’ and ‘how can we…’ the problem was just THESE WALLS!!
So we took care of those walls!
Honestly we debated keeping the original floor for so long. Even after we bought the tile we still went back and forth. In the end it was just too damaged. We’ll keep what we can and just move on with the rest.
Check out what is happening this week!
Oh my goodness you guys I cannot wait until it’s finished. I’ve been dying to show you all the faucets and lighting. This week Oliver is putting in trim and finishing the window bench. Which involved a hilarious discussion where I think he basically was like ‘Hey lady you’re out! I have control’ which is fine by me because it was stressing me out and husband was like ‘Oh thank gosh!’ I don’t think he loved looking at hundreds of Pinterest pins with me. Why I can’t imagine. LOL
The kitchen cabinets are going in this week, counters hopefully next week. Wait until you see the layout we came up with. I’m still convinced we could have done a larger island, but we’ll see. Regardless its lovely.
Have a beautiful day and check back soon for part 2. This is going to be an amazing month ahead of us. Daily updates on IG and FB (links below).
With Love K
