We still haven’t decided exactly what our master bedroom goals are. It currently has no closet and as a gal who likes clothes, this is a problem!!! Do we add an addition and turn the powder room into a closet? We’re going to live in it for a little and work on other rooms in the house while we figure out what the best solution is. That being said the little powder room off the master needs HELP! The basics of the room are ok but it’s small, inconvenient and not really a treat to the eye. We’re not looking to do a huge remodel in this space but I really do want it to flow with the house. You know how I feel about pretty.
OKay lets give this a go, a 1 day easy bathroom makeover. And by easy, I mean lets skip out half way through and take a drive through Prince Edward County for lunch at a cute little brewery, easy.
Step 1. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! We’ve been living in a construction zone with this as our only restroom. That meant a lot of dirty work boots. I scrub scrub scrubbed that room. And then I made husband scrub a little more. Lol.
Step 2. Patch and paint. Paint makes such a difference in a space. We have shiplap walls and I’m pretty sure the former owners had no idea what they were doing. That or they owned stock in nails. There are sooo many nail holes in this house!
I like to imagine her all cross with a nail gun just firing at the wall. While this is entertaining, the result is it’s distracting and leaves rooms looking unfinished. Patch we did, and importantly, remember to sand the patches before you paint! It takes 2 minutes and leaves such a perfect surface for paint. As for the color, I decided to paint the entire house a single shade of white so for me this was an easy choice, but honestly in a small space like this you can go wild! Add a focal wall with paint, paper, wall art! Go crazy!!
Step 3. Pick Your Battles! In a quick and easy reno think about what you ‘need’ versus what you ‘want.’ I would love a beautiful farmhouse style, floating wood vanity. We could absolutely do that but it would involve relocating and replacing plumbing, patching walls, and in the end are we going to turn this space into a closet anyway? Clearly not a great use of time, energy or money. Instead I added a coat of soft grey chalk paint. In the end it looks amazing and we kept what little amount of storage space we have. I also decided to keep the mirror for now. While I don’t love it, there’s nothing really wrong with it, so let’s keep our money and decide later if a new one is really warranted. Pick your battles!
Step 4. Quality where it counts. I love hardware. Love love love it. Pretty fixtures and finishes, total heaven. In the kitchen and main bath I already chose champagne bronze (gold) but in the powder room it has these lovely shiplap walls, marble hex floor and it leant itself to a more traditional farmhouse feel. I chose polished nickel from the Delta Cassidy Collection. I think that of all the finishes polished nickel is my all time classic favourite. It always feels timeless to me. If we decide on a bedroom addition with a full bath these pieces will carry easily into that remodel. Definitely good investment choices!
I hope you love the results as much as I do!
This faucet gives me all the feels. I couldn’t stop taking it out of the box when it first came (but the plumber told me I had to stop lest I scratch it, thanks plumber Dave, good call, lol). The finish is so gorgeous and because we have the shiplap walls it completes that “farmhouse’ feel. BUT!!! IF we redo the bathroom I see a large bright white inviting bathroom, with big windows around it, a free-standing tub, chandelier, double vanity, stand alone shower, all in Cassidy polished nickel. I hope you love my one day makeover, it feels so fresh and bright now.
Disclaimers: Yes, I do keep flowers in my bathroom on a regular occasion. I slip a few out of my bouquets, or pick them from the yard and place them all around the house. They bring me happiness and I like to embrace this wherever I find it. ALso, this post was sponsored by Delta, I feel I want to elaborate a little on what that means for me. This post is sponsored but all product choices are mine, all opinions are mine. Nothing was ever asked of me except to share the results. So when I tell you I love a product, I mean it. The group I worked with was amazing, I honestly mean it. They sat with me through emails and phone calls, should I get hook or…. what about this…. and they would come back with photoboards of combinations. What an amazing amount of time and effort they spent to make this home prefect for me. I love a company that cares its clients are happy. Thanks Delta for my amazing powder room, it’s so perfect.
